SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Lynnfield Rotary will be awarding up to three (3) scholarships of $2000 each to a graduating senior(s) who will be pursuing post high school education.  Applicants must either attend Lynnfield High School or reside in Lynnfield.

Selection Criteria

Rotary’s Motto is Service Above Self. In this light, the scholarship(s) will be awarded to student(s) who have demonstrated:

​

  1. A strong commitment to volunteer community service.

  2. High moral character.

  3. Civic pride (pride and commitment to your community).

  4. Academic proficiency.

  5. One of the scholarships entitled “Julie Routhier Scholarship” will be awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing post high school education in a teaching career. Please indicate on your application is you are applying for this scholarship.

 

To enter, candidates must provide the following:

  1. A 750 word (12 point double spaced arial font) essay on their volunteer experience. Essays should focus on why the applicant selected their particular service, what they learned from it, what they feel they have accomplished, how the experience affected them and what type of volunteer service they would like to do in the future.

    • For those candidates applying to the Julie Routhier Scholarship the example volunteer experience should include examples related to teaching or helping younger children in the community.  

  2. Recommendation includes signatures from a teacher and guidance counselor.

  3. Recommendation letter by a non-relative focused on character and civic pride.

  4. Documentation of community service hours.

  5. High School academic documentation.

 

The finalist(s) will be invited to attend a Rotary luncheon and present a 10 minute talk, in which they will introduce themselves and share their volunteer experience.  The first installment of $1000 will be awarded at this time.  The second $1000 will be awarded at the Rotary Club luncheon during the summer preceding the student’s sophomore year.  The award recipient will be asked to present another 10 minute talk about their past freshman year, any volunteer experience, and future plans.  A hard copy of the essay shall be submitted with the application on the following page and shall not include their name anywhere on the essay.  Essays are judged completely anonymously by the committee.
